Dragon Rock

Once upon a time in a far away valley was a little town with a huge grassy field. In that field lived a dragon that looked just like a boulder. It just sat there. It managed to get there 200 years ago. It slept a lot. His body colour was like a blue rotten sea. His scales were blunt and his back was mouldy. He sat there like a boulder way up on a cliff. There were claws on his hands that looked like bruised bananas. I reckon that he had a triple ended tail but you just couldn’t tell because it was hiding under his body. It also smelt like a dumpster behind a school hall. He reeked out the whole village. Complaints came in too. The dragon felt like pointy dry grass and rough orange peels rubbing against you. People are sometimes hairy right, he was just like that. Plus he tasted just like gone off bread and ink out of a pen.
This one day he never woke up. The villagers knew he was still alive because his scaly, blue tummy always moved up and down while it was breathing. On the one day he woke, rain would fall and fill the wells with much needed water. But there was one problem. The rain would only fall once a month when the dragon woke up. That’s when the disaster began........ the dragon wouldn’t wake up.
The villagers prayed for the blue dragon to wake up and save the village, the children cried and split the brown dry grass seeing what the Dragon had done. The townsfolk grew worried because they thought they might die of thirst. The village was so dry all coloured cars stopped working. They even ordered horses and donkeys to take them out of town. The children begged their mums and dads to spend their last two dollars on water from the supermarket but it was all sold out. Mrs .Greywhistle got so angry at the dragon she threw a rock at him.
Suddenly, the ground started rumbling and tumbling....
The villagers hadn’t heard such a loud noise in so long they forgot what the noise was for. Mrs. Greywhistle said, “The dragon is awakening!” They cheered and laughed with greatness. The sky went grey and it poured down with rain, it poured so heavily many buildings fell down but nobody cared.
Over the months Mrs. Greywhistle became queen of Dragonville. Plants grew and an inventor made an aerial and a red button to go with it. When you pressed that red button the dragon would wake up and it would rain. Now dragonville is the best country in the world. People come to help, plant, invent and have a holiday. That is the story of Dragon Rock.

Dragon and the people

Dragon and The People
Once Upon a time, in a far away green valley, there lived hundreds of people working and playing. The kids would run around like playful little puppies running around the green, beautiful valley, digging holes and playing games. The men would work everyday like diggers and cranes. The women would stay at home knitting and cleaning. There was long, spiky green grass and long, beautiful flowers swaying and dancing in the cool breeze.
One day, a giant fierce dragon stomped angrily across the village. The dragon had an ocean blue and emerald green scaly body, with his lightning yellow and fiery red tail behind him. He had sharp, dirty teeth that hadn’t been brushed for years and above his big, dark hairy nostrils were big eyes that glared at people. The ground shook and cracked.
“Ahh! Ahh!” Everyone screamed. There was only one boy who knew what to do. He and his friends had a plan. They knew how they could save the town. They put a pot of boiling water under a fake person they made. Then they heard stomping. The dragon stepped on it and ran away. They never saw him again.
One day, many years later, a girl found a strange egg in her garden. She stared at it for hours. Suddenly, she saw a crack. “Mum, dad, come and look!” She shouted. Her parents came running out and stared at it.”It’s a dragon egg!” Her parents exclaimed. Then, a tiny paw came out, and slowly, a cute baby dragon was crawling around the garden exploring. He was jumping around playfully and nibbling the fresh, juicy green grass.
Out of no where, a fierce dragon came back again. He was sniffing around. Fortunately, a big rainbow appeared in front of him. He didn’t notice the tiny elf in the middle holding a wand, so he walked through. Then the dragon turned into a rock.
Soon people discovered that there was no more water in their village, and some people died.” The only way you can get water is to go to the city covered in clouds and get a potion.”Said the queen in a meeting.
“I will go, “said a girl. “Ok,” Said the queen. Soon the girl arrived at the city covered in clouds. She went to an old woman’s house and the old woman gave her the potion. Then, the girl was on her way back, but she soon got stuck in some sticky clouds.

“Yum!” She said as she soon realised the clouds were candyfloss. She pocketed the potion and took a day to get to the dragon rock, she poured the potion into the end of the wand and waved it at the little elf. He ran away as fast as lightning. Then, the girl waved the wand at the dragon and he woke. He had something in his paws and dropped it onto the grass. It grew into a big flower that sprayed water, and it started to give everyone water.

The villagers were so happy that they built a big tower, and every year they would go and celebrate the day that the dragon gave them water.

Dragon Rock

Long, long ago in a far away land, near a deep valley, there were spiky green pine trees swooshing and swaying , while the cold , clear , spring water oozed and trickled along the valley floor. The villagers were very happy and the children loved to play through the grassy, green mountains.
But, not long away from there lived a dragon that looked just like a dragon sculpture from the Museum. The villagers weren’t afraid of the dragon because it would never move.
His skin was a powerful turquoise with yellow and red scales. He had beautiful brown eyes that shone in the firm sunlight, and his eye lashes were bendy like wavy sticks. The huge nostrils of his were like the size of exploding volcanoes and his smelly feet smelt just like old mouldy bread. His tail was as stiff as a tree root under the ground. Horrible smells like old rotten milk and mouldy cheese drifted from his body. His body felt like rough rocks and slime just like a jelly fish, and in some gaps between his scales he had gross little grass mountains . Also, worst of all he tasted just like sea salt with a hint of spice, YUK!
In the village there was one major problem, there had been no water in the valley for days and the ground would always soak up all the water . The villagers had to start washing their clothes in the old dishwashing water.

The townsfolk grew worried. The villagers would murmur depressing predictions to each other when passing by. The people from the village would always look up at the sky and search for rain and grey clouds in the blue, clear skies. But, none of them ever came.
3 days later the valley had turned browner, and their lawns had faded to crisp grass. All the children begged their parents to spend their last few dollars on water from old Mrs Greywistles supermarket. They were very happy to get the last bit of water for their thirsty children to drink. Every parent in the village started to go to old Mrs Greywisles supermarket to buy their children some water as well as themselves.
One day the parents got home from the supermarket and they felt a slight shake. The ground started to rumble and suddenly the ground sent explosions of soil and trees into the air, and the next explosion split a great big hole into the earth.

The people of the village squeezed up together against a wall near the dragon. They heard a noise like, Aahh Aahh Ahhchoo! The sneeze made a huge crack around the villagers. The crack started to make a huge lake right in the middle of the dusty, brown ground. The lake was shining through the sunlight. The people of the village started to get scared. At that very moment the dragon flew away and never was seen again .
Later on in the year the children of the village would spread flowers around the cave where the dragon had lived. From that day forward they would celebrate the dragon by putting flowers around the cave every month.

The Dragon Rock by P.B.

500 years ago, west of Hawaii, was a valley. The valley wasn’t just a piece of land it was a village with a GIANT rock, the rock was a dragon. Everyone knew it was a dragon, but they just treated it like it was a rock because it never moved. The dinosaur - like beast had fiery red scales that got browner every day. His slashed feet were as crumbled as an old mans skin. The dragon had a belly the colour of the sea. He had a giant nozzle the size of Jupiter with yucky brown rotten nostrils. This creature had the most disgusting toenails; they looked like witches fingernails that had not been cut in centuries.

The monster smelt like a rotten egg in Rotorua. His belly was so cold you wouldn’t have to put it in the freezer to cool it down, but his wings, back, tail and feet were warmer than the sun because he’d been lying in the sun for over 500 years. The sleeping dragon tasted like an off fish that’s dead. The fish- like taste was salty and raw. His tail was spiky, fat and the colour of ripe red apples, it was as bright as the sun on a lovely day.

In the valley there were beautiful playgrounds and wavy hills. The people were as kind as a Christian in the morning. The bees were as happy as a horse in a hayfield. The children were as playful as new born puppies. The children would run everywhere and the whole town would always be happy! The valley was filled with lovely trees, green, lush grass and a hot, hot sun that was always shining.

There was no rain for as long as the dragon had slept, the townsfolk had to wash clothes in old, dirty water from a little stream. They would travel days across the land just to get a bucket of stream water to last them a couple of weeks. That would be used for dishes, clothes and baths and other things.

But worst of all, each day because everything was hot, the people would get meaner and the children would get less happy and playful. The whole town became mean and nasty. If an emergency like this ever happened, the town had prepared a rhyme and it went like this:
Dragon, Dragon, help us please -
If you help we’ll let you be -
We need you to help us fix this mess –
Please help us it’s not a test.

But because everyone was so mean, they forgot about it. The days past while the dragon lay by the empty lake. Nothing would happen, not a sound, not a move. A week went by with no difference. Still the people were nasty. The days were still hot and the dragon was still ASLEEP! Everyone was still mad at the dragon. Nobody was proud, happy or joyful. They were all skinny eyed and sullen.

Meanwhile the children had a plan. They were walking around town quickly and quietly, nobody noticed them when they went to the drag0n. When they got to the dragon they realised how pretty he was. So they put all of the flowers that were left in a circle around him and then they sung the rhyme:

“Dragon Dragon, help us please -
If you help we’ll let you be -
We need you to help us fix this mess -
Please help us it’s not a test.”

They sang and sang until it worked, but they didn’t know it worked until...

An eye opened, and then one boy said, “It’s alive! Run everyone run” The whole town ran to the top of the hill and huddled for safety. Up got the dragon and away it went across the village destroying everything, but nobody cared they all thought it was amazing. The dragon felt something tickle his nose, he started to sneeze.

“Aahhhhh aahhhhh,” everyone was so amazed at the noise coming from the dragon. “Aahhhh aahhhhhh,” off he went again ready to let something out! “AahhhhChoooo!” Out flushed water from the dragon’s nose. There was so much it filled up the empty lake.

“Aahhhhh Chooo,” off he went again using his magic slobber to fill the sky with rainclouds so it would rain every now and again.
Now and for the rest of the dragons’ life in the village, he would always be believed in.

The amazing year 5 camp.

We had a great time on camp. We went to Sonshine ranch and the marae. At the marae we did skits ,poi ,weaving ,and hangi. The next day we went to Sonshine ranch, we went on the flying fox, water confidence and horse riding. At the marae we had a hangi, it looked like a blob of slop. The breakfast was dry and the pancakes were burnt and the MILO was watery. At Sonshine ranch the flying fox was so high and scary. The horse riding was fun but scary. The water course was very scary. It had tyre swings and two ropes, plus 1 rope and about 8 more on top. We had a great time.

Sonshine Ranch and Marae

When everyone arrived at school everyone was excited to go. I was patient. At 9:00 the bus was here. Everyone rushed to the bus, me too. I was over reacting my face was red.I almost forgot my camping bags.

When we arrived we did the hongi, it was awkward. Next we did activties at the end of the day, we did skits and I liked E.F and A.S. At 7:30 we went to bed, it was annoying because someones dad was snoring... he was out like a light bulb.

Next moning it was weird because the techers forced us to pack up quickly. It was lucky we had brakfast. I was tired because that man snored hard out.

Next we went to Sonshine ranch. We went to the flying fox and I was scared as a cat going in water. I started to get scared when they say go. C.S. go C.S. go C.S. I was crying a little bit. Next we went horse riding. My one was OP it was cool. I wanted to ride again but no, next we went to little animals. There were goats, rabbits, bunnies and a hamster. Next we had lunch and it was nice. After that we went to the water confidence.
The water was freezing cold but I didn't fall in once. Next we went back on the bus.

It was 30 minutes to go back to school and I fell asleep. We went back to school and I was tired. When we were back I went to after scool care and I played cricket with my frends calld M.B, W.C, R.C, C.M and at 5:12 my mum came. I told her everthing when we were back at home and I fell asleep again.

Steve Devine

On Friday Steve Devine came to our school. We played cricket and practised
throwing, batting and hitting the wicket as well as racing for the ball to hit the wicket. We played till about the bell went. When we were playing,
we took turns at throwing the ball at the wicket. When it hit the wicket
everyone would clap. We swapped over so that someone was batting and whoever got him out becams the batter. F.W. was the batter most of the time.
I was never the batter because I couldnt get anyone out. F.W. hit my ball
far away and I had to go get it and pass it to the next person. Once we finished at the batting station Steve called every one in and told us how well we had done. It was then home time. We went back to our classes and waited for the bell to ring then we went home, it was fun.

The two awesome days at camp!

Everyone on the bus was really excited to go to the marae. When we got there we went into the meeting house. We sat on the mat in the marae then we did hongies to the Maori people. After we sat down on the mat we did some activites. They were really fun to do and one of the fun activities was weaving. Then we went out side to see some plants. We saw where they cook the hangi. After that we had lunch on the field and we played games on the field. One of the ladys showed us around the marae then it was dinner, we had hangi for dinner, it was so yum! Then we had dessert it was apple crumble. After that we did skits and some of them were really funny then we went to bed. Later at night someone started snoring.

In the morning we had breakfast, then after breakfast we went on the bus to Sonshine ranch. When we got there we went on the flying fox, it was awesome! When C.S. was going to go on it he was too scared to go on it. After that we went horse riding. It was hard to control the horse and when I was riding my horse it farted and it was really funny. After that we saw some animals. The pig was talking to us but he talked in pig. When we were feeding a goat it farted at us, it was really funny then we had lunch. After lunch we went to the water confidence course. The water was freezing. I was the first one to make it across the tyres. After a little bit we went back to school and on the way to school L.H started to sleep. I enjoyed camp and can't wait for another one.

Ca ca camp!

On Monday the 5th of March we went to the marae. We went on the bus. When we got there they did a welcome it was fun.The funny thing that happend were the skits. The funniest skit was when E.F and AJ were farting around the stage.

When we went to Sonshine ranch I was scared to go on the horse but I went on it anyway. I got an allergy in my eye, it was really itchy. After lunch we went to the water confidence course. I only fell off once. The water was cold and muddy and the bottom felt like snakes, it scared me, I doggy-paddled all of the way back. I had a really good time and I want to do it again.

Up up and away!!!

Up, up and away, singing wheels on the bus go round and round. Err I have got that song in my head, I am still singing it now. The people from Papakura Marae greeted us. I wanted to be called maori as well. We did these activities like poi, stick games and at weaving we made a flower. The next day we got on the bus to go to Sonshine ranch. The flying fox was really fun but the rope swing was horrible, I hated it. The horse ride was fun. At first we went round in a circle then because we were the last ones we put the horses back into their stable. Then we went to the water confidence course. One one of them was the monkey bars, it was scary. The two I completed were the rope ones. I had a great time.

Year 5 camp fun!

We went to a marae and we did some activities.
I first did stick games. It was hard.
Next I did poi. It was fun.
Then we made a flower with a type of leaf. It was pretty.
Then we went to the kitchen and the lady taught us how to make maori bread. She let us try the bread.
It was my favourite.
Then we went to Sonshine ranch. It was my first tame there so I was nervous.
First my group went on the flying fox and rope swing.
I went on the flying fox and it was high so it was scary, but I had fun.
Then I went on the rope swing, that was the scary at first. It was the best.
Then we went horse riding and I rode on a horse called Damien .He was friendly.
Then we had dance. It was fun.
For last bit we did the water confidence course.
There were about 5 courses and I made it over 3 of them.
There were monkey bars, I thought they were easy but they wern't, they were hard.
I was shocked when I went into the water, it was mostly thick mud and it was disgusting.
All Year5 had Fun

The Marae and Sonshine Ranch Experience!

Last week on Monday and Tuesday the year 5's went to Papakura Marae and
Sonshine Ranch. At the Marae we did heaps of cool things such as... poi, stick games, maori bread, zumba and much more! But the highlight for me was the weaving. We made a flower and I was shocked that I was really good at it! I'm English and my weaving was fantastic! All the skits went well and when we woke up in the morning the bus was half an hour late to pick us up to go to Sonshine Ranch. But it finally did and picked us up to go.

On the way I recognised afew things since I go to Sonshine Ranch anyway for horseriding lessons. At Sonshine Ranch we did lots of exciting things like... small animals, horseriding and water confidence course. But the best part of all was the flying fox and rope swing. At first your'e compleatly terrifed, scared out of your socks! But then you soon get used to it and you get a magical sensation of flying it's pretty cool!!!

Finally the bus came to pick us up and took us back to school. It was a tiring yet fun trip! I can't wait to do it agian but this time at Kawau island, and for five days, really exciting!!!

Big experience on year 5 camp.

All the year fives went on camp for two days and one night and now we are back to learn at school. First we went to the marae and did activities up until morning tea. The year fives from room 12 and three other kids from different classes were in our group. To begin with our group were doing the sticks then the pois and then one of my favourites, the weaving, then, lucky last, the fried Maori bread making. I didn't like the bread but the other activities were cool. For dinner we had a hangi some of it was nice then for pudding we had apple crumble with custard on the top, it was sooooo good. Then we got set up for our skits in the hall. After that we got ready for bed. In the morning we had hot chocolate and pancakes and cereal for breakfast then packed up to go on the bus to Sonshine ranch.

When we got there we got into grups and first our group had the flying fox but I didn't go on it. Then there was the rope swing, I also didn't go on that. We saw little animals. Then my favourite thing of camp... HORSE RIDING! We went around the small track then a HUMUNGOUS TRACK and it was really fun. Next we had lunch then we got a chocolat bar. After that was the water confidence course, there were tyres, rock climbing, one rope at the top and one on the bottom and ropes hanging down. Near the top of Sonshine ranch we went down a big slide. After that we went home, it was so much fun.

Year 5 camp.

We went on the year five camp, it was amazing. We went to the marae and we played some diffrent games like stick games. EB knocked me on the head with a stick. We also did poi, bread making and weaving, then we had a hangi chicken with stuffing and vegtables.

Later we had skits, they were fun, then we went to bed. The next day we went to Sonshine Ranch. We went hores riding and tried the water confidence course, it was cold. After we had lunch we went on the flying fox it was very high up and then we went on the rope swing. After that we went on a green slide it was not scary at all. Then we went back on the bus back to school. It was the best!

Year Fives fun Time at Camp

The year fives had a wonderful time at camp last week. We enjoyed doing some fun maori activities, and sleeping in a marae. At night, people did'nt get to sleep because there was lots of snoring, talking and coughing. I've never ate hangi before or slept in a marae.

It was really grosse seeing the horses poo, and it was grosse seeing people falling in the green, yucky, gooey stuff under water. Luckily, I finished six of the courses without falling into the water. After, when I arrived at the other side of the tyres, I felt really tired and my hands were as red as an apple.

It was scary when I jumped off the flying fox because I've never been on such a high one before.I liked brushing and feeding my horse. When I went to see the animals the rabbits were really cute and when I put a piece of long grass in their cage, they were so excited, that they started jumping up and down. When I went to feed the goats, one of them pushed C.Sm over, and one of them pooed when I was feeding it.

Year 5 Camp 2012

Hi everyone, we're back!
The excitement of our year 5 camp has come to a conclusion and now we have terrific memories.
It was a new experience for me as well because I have never slept on a marae before. I felt happy knowing that the ancestors hanging on the wall were looking out for us. Some of them looked pretty fearful and would scare away anything untoward.
Sonshine Ranch was full of fun and excitement for the students. The horse riding is always a well-loved activity although I think the toileting habits of horses created too much loud squealing and joviality.....I did hear 'grosse' a few times.
I am glad I didn't have to try out the cold, muddy water at the confidence course, some stirred the mud up quite well with their antics.
Again it was a successful trip with the students giving things a go and reaching beyond their comfort zones. The persistence and determination I witnessed was amazing.

Mrs F
